If you’re anything like me, then teaching your children the Quran can seem like an overwhelming task!

Because with so many lessons to digest, along with the importance of memorising surahs and ayats, it’s hard to know where to begin.

Not to mention trying to make it enjoyable for your child and something they can relate to.

So it was a welcomed addition to our bookshelf when I received a copy of “My First Quran with Pictures |Juz’ ‘Amma Part 1”.

My children (aged 5, 7 and 10 at the time of writing this) are at various stages of learning about stories from the Quran and memorising surahs. This is the first time they’ve been able to make such a strong visual connection to the surahs in the Quran, which they really enjoyed.

My First Quran with Pictures covers 25 surahs from juzʼ ‘amma, the 30th juzʼ containing surahs 78 through to 114. These are the shorter surahs in the Quran and the ones that children typically start to memorise first.

In medieval times dividing the Quran into 30 parts (30 juz’) made it accessible to people who couldn’t purchase manuscripts of the entire Quran. Instead, they read these copies of smaller portions from their mosque. Dividing the Quran into juz’ also helps facilitate recitation, especially during the month of Ramadan.

The structure of My First Quran with Pictures cleverly presents the Quranic text, translation and illustrations in child friendly way. This provides a connection with the text and illustrations that is engaging and allows for open discussion.

Each Surah is presented in Arabic script with each line numbered to it’s corresponding translation in English. This numbering system makes it easy for the reader to match the translation with the Arabic text and related images.

There’s nothing more unappealing to a child than facing a page full of black and white text. That’s why the cartoon illustrations in My First Quran with Pictures skillfully brings the words to life.

This visual reminder enables children to more vividly recall the surahs within the Quran and the stories being told.

My First Quran with Pictures has been really well thought out. As a result, it’s an Islamic picture book that provides so many learning opportunities that I wanted my children to benefit from.

That’s why I decided to create a Search + Find printable activity sheet for them.

It was great to see them re-engage with the stories and illustrations as they searched for different images. My kids also loved colouring this in!

If you’d like to use the Search + Find activity with your child as well you can download it here.
